Yes this week's Barbados Beat is LATE. This roving reporter has been so busy driving all over collecting information for you dear readers, that we missed the bus- so to speak - on Tuesday. But here we go with the first and last late issue. Next week's issue will return to it's regular time and place.

Machel in Collision

Don't panic, Machel was not in a vehicular accident! The Soca superstar Machel Montano HD hit the stage of Baje International's biggest party this year. Held last Friday, the show was entitled "Collision" and for 2 and 1/2 solid hours the Trini singer danced, sang and thrilled the audience with his biggest hits. Joined by and Patrice Roberts Machel made sure that his one and only performance for this year's Crop-Over was unforgettable.

Soca on De Hill Derailed

Although the audience did not throw bottles - like at Wet Fete two week's earlier - thousands of Bajans were none too pleased when The Royal Barbados Police finished Sunday's Soca on De Hill exactly at 8:00 p.m.

Members of the audience jumped and cheered in glee or disbelief when the Hypa Dawg said it looked like the individual and his son "don't like no kinda conch atall". However, when he went to sing his second song "Can't Wait" second emcee for the evening Peter Coppin indicated that Lil Rick was only allowed to sing one song.  The 8,000 strong crowd started singing the song, but Lil Rick's Mic was cut and then the lights as well.

Although there were no major incidents listed for the day and the 8,000 crowd strong had partied hearty for the whole day with a packed schedule of numerous artistes it was a noticeable that the abrupt end was not appreciated as the crowd left grumbling or yelling'

New Route for J'Ouvert

The Foreday Morning Jam (the Barbadian J'ouvert event) has a new route. Instead of winding through the city of Bridgetown, the route will now begin at the top of the University Hill by the Cave Hill campus to finish at the traditional "Bridgetown Market" on the Spring Garden Highway.
