AND We ARE Back!!

Barbados Beat was out of commission for two weeks, but now we are back with your store of Bajan Entertainment Information.

246 Album Releases

We have all heard that Alison Hinds will be releasing her first solo album "Soca Queen" next week, but those of you Mac Heads and iTune users can grab a copy of the album - called "Soca Queen" - this week on the iTunes music store.

And in Bim two Hip-Hop Artistes are also set to release albums very soon. Long time veteran Trezay who pioneered the style he calls "Chip Hop" a fusion of soca and Hip-Hop will be releasing his new album "Liquid Flow" on November 30th Barbados' 41st anniversary of Independence.

However, fans of Trezay were treated to his mixtape " LIQUID-CIDY" last month.

Trezay if represented by the Bajan "So Real Entertainment" which also represents Hip-Hop newcomer "Rubytech." Rubytech's album is also set to drop this year, but he has released HIS mixtape this week.

No Shows?

Rubytech performed week before last at this year's Mr. and Miss Barbados World show. As I wrote in the last issue Fabian Bartlett and Natalie Griffith were crowned this year's titleholders and are now presently working towards representing their country in the international competitions.

However, franchise holder Stephanie Chase has had to fend off allegations from one segment of the media, which reported that some patrons were crying foul over what they called "false advertising."

According to the Barbados Advocate patrons claimed that originally the show had the band "Strategy" and "an international artiste" were on the cards. Strategy frontman Kirk Brown was told on the day of the show that they were told they were "no longer needed." While Chase stated that Kelvin Southwell of Kelvin S Designs was the sponsor of the night's evening wear and has been "featured internationally."

Recently the Fair Trading Commission had warned promoters against false advertising and Chase told the media that those "claiming false advertising" could contact her.

Lejade Show

And speaking of shows, the Lejade Man competition, a male model show came off last weekend at the Barbados Museum. Conceptualised by Anthony Jordan who owns LeJade Models, the show was originally supposed to occur in May 2007 and we here at Barbados Beat spoke about it WAY back then.

However, the show had to be revamped and the line-up of male models changed in the meantime. Still the show was well attended and eventually 20 year-old model Kareem Payne-Birningham claimed the prize to be the LeJade Man 2007 and the face for new designer Julian Clarke's Rockstone Designs. Crowd Favourites Thomas Estwick and Joshua Banfield came second and third.
