With an upcoming Fashion Show pencilled in for June the 20th, Meiling and pals reconvened their Model Search party down at Pier 1.
Semi-apocalyptic downpours had marred the previous week’s events, nonetheless 800 people still turned out to support this rearranged charity event (all proceeds went to the ‘Cotton Tree Foundation’). With those kinds of numbers on a night of major flooding it was decided by all the parties involved to do it again this week, improved meteorological conditions permitting. The turn out was good, there were lots of beautiful people dressed to impress and some good sounds which included the Lavantille rhythm section. Large video screens played footage of previous catwalk shows while a bunch of spotters, ‘good cop-bad cop’ style, roamed the party looking for prospective new faces to model Meiling’s clothes.
With so many great faces to choose from the judges clipboards seemed very full. And in all honesty there were a few guys milling around who regretted not bringing their own clipboards and scoring some phone digits themselves. One trend we did note in terms of the female element of the search was that while there were many hundreds of drop dead gorgeous honies there, height seemed to be a little bit of a problem. A catwalk model has to be tall and while the women on show could easily beat out competition from around the world for looks, most of the girls weren’t cutting the height issue. On the male front, with so many of the judges being women we’re sure they had little problem identifying the looks they thought would work.
When the initial spotting frenzy passed and the drinks started to hit home, the party seemed to loosen up and people were having a good time. Some, and there were many, went mad for the Sesame Street run through, others turned and hoped the music would get better. In the end it all balanced out, slows, hip-hop, r & b, conscious, soca and some cool old time M J ensured the musical flavas mixed and had the crowd moving.
