Bp Renegades, WITCO Desperadoes and the Neal and Massy All Stars will be among six Port-of-Spain steel orchestras who will be competing for $60,000 in cash prizes at the first-ever Clash of Steel at the Queen’s Park Oval on October 9.

The competition is a project of the entertainment committee of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) and will feature three bands from Port-of-Spain east and three from Port-of-Spain west.

The six bands are: bp Renegades, Neal and Massy All Stars, WITCO Desperadoes from the east and  Petrotrin Phase II, BWIA Invaders and Excellent Stores Silver Stars from the west.

According to Roger Henderson, executive manager of the QPCC, explained that each band will be allowed to play a song of their choice for 30 minutes before a panel of judges chosen by the pan men themselves. Also, each band will only be allowed 30 players.

Sponsors for the event include National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB), Carib and Media 21 among others.  The first 2,000 patrons to the competition will receive a free classic lottery ticket from NLCB.

Tickets for Clash of Steel will go on sale at the Queen’s Park Oval on Tuesday 28 September at a price $50, which will increase to $60 the following week.
