Yes, Point Fortin knows how to churn them out, Iwer and Naya George, Faye Ann Lyons and Preacher are just some of the examples.
That's why the launch of Royalty by Dynamic Productions on Friday November 18, at B&D's Hot Spot in Vance River is such a special thing.
"There are actually five bands that come out of Point Fortin," the band's designer Neil Stanley said.
"But they don't launch and thing. They are very low key."
Stanley is of the belief that the low key stance taken by his colleagues could only be to the detriment of mas in the southern Trinidad district.
"Right now I think it needs to be revived. A person should know that he doesn't have to go to Port-of-Spain to play mas. He could play right here."
"We want to take a different approach to mas in South. That's why we are launching our band."
Dynamic Productions, out of Techier Village, began producing mas for Point Fortin Carnival this year, capturing both the Point Fortin Carnival band of the year title as well as the Point Fortin Borough Day J'ouvert band of the
year.
"We offer to masqueraders the level of costume design you'd find in Port-of-Spain," Stanley, a former designer with Babarossa said.
The band package also includes a limited amount of complimentary drinks at "a price that is much cheaper that they would pay in Port-of-Spain."
Jewel of the Nile, Royal Highness, Crown Jewels and Regalia are the four sections that will make up Royalty.
At the launch on Friday the costumes for all sections will be presented by Royalty models. There will also be guest performances by top soca artistes. Admission is free.
For registration and further information on the band, masqueraders can visit the Mas Camp which is located on Ninth Street, Techier Village in Point Fortin or call Stanley at 748-2717.
