Goalkeeper Shaka Hislop who led Trinidad and Tobago to a tie against Sweden in this year's World Cup, has signed with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer yesterday.

Hislop, 37, has played the past 14 years in England, most recently with West Ham United of the English Premier League. He was the starting goalie in the FA Cup final against Liverpool in May.

I'm very excited about joining FC Dallas," Hislop said "This is a new and exciting challenge at the right time in my career."

Dallas did not have to pay a transfer fee to acquire Hislop because the goalie came as a free agent. Dallas Coach Colin Clarke said negotiations with Hislop began about five weeks ago, before Hislop captivated the soccer world with his performance against Sweden.

Hislop's defining performance also made him a commodity, which caused concern with Dallas. But Hislop chose Dallas because of the respect he has for MLS. Several T&T players play in the league, and he always wanted to play in the U.S. again after his college experience.

Hislop, who is living in England, will join Dallas in two to three weeks, after his visa is approved.
