After a successful initiation in 2007, the Achievement Awards show has become one of the most anticipated events in the Canadian reggae community. With a star studded line up which features the best of the best in Canadian reggae music, this year’s event promises to entertain, educate and enlighten.
This year's show will include performances by Steele, Norris Weir & the Jamaicans, Larry Marshall & Jackie Robinson and many others. All performers will be backed by the Mountain Edge Band.
As a result of the steady growth in the demand for reggae/dancehall in Canada, the organizers had no difficulty getting sponsors to support the event. Some of the main sponsors this year will be; The West Indian Fine Foods, Soft Sheen Carson, Judy Powel, Kalade 1 Design, 89.5 CIUT, Senvia, Patty World, Vibes Ent.com, Club Epiphany, Caribbean Camera, Pride, Vibes, CHRY 105.5 and CKLN 88.1fm.

ABOUT REGGAE MUSIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Sterling who has been the host of the “mix supreme show” on CHRY since 1995 initiated the awards as a way to honor reggae/dancehall artists for their accomplishments over the year. The show focuses primarily on the Canadian reggae scene but does have categories acknowledging international attainments. In addition to honoring artists, the award show also honors reggae media (this includes radio personalities as well as online and printed magazines).
Unfortunately, the music industry in Canada does not give reggae the light it deserves. As a result, artists in this genre have always thought it to be extremely difficult to garner any attention. That being said, a Reggae Music Achievement Awards Show has been anticipated and well received.
This year the show will be held on Sunday, June 8th at the Holiday Inn, in Toronto. It will feature the likes of Montreal’s Mikey Dangerous, Jamaica’s Richie B and many others. The event is expected to be the highlight of the year as far as the Canadian reggae community goes. © Copyright 2003 by Islandevents.com PRINT |
