When will we learn that the dishonest things you do today will return to haunt you later in life? With Carifesta IX over and done, we the people are now left with the more than $29M bill and while the Budget for the coming year is revealed this week you can be certain that you and I will be paying for Carifesta in one way or another. Laura does not have any problems with the people of Trinidad and Tobago paying for the advancement and proliferation of Caribbean arts and culture. That is a good thing. What I hate is paying for some big pappy's brand new Beamer or Benz and his beachfront holiday home in Toco. Wondering what I'm talking about? Well Laura has been informed that a couple of persons involved in the production of Carifesta IX, which actually "cost" $50M, managed to slip a little kakada into their pockets. Who are they? Keep your eyes out for a couple culture vultures cruising around in brand new luxury vehicles by year's end.
Members of the local Chinese community took offense to remarks made by the PM at a luncheon on Sunday in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the Arrival of the Chinese People to this island. In a nutshell, Mr. PM told the Chinese that their greatest contributions to the development of Trinidad and Tobago were their skills in shop keeping, providing laundry services and cooking fast food. As the PM made his statements there were gasps and groans throughout the venue. No further fuss was made though because the PM was their guest and the Chinese people are always gracious hosts even when their guest puts his foot in his mouth.
