Whew! I am back. Sorry for being gone so long but boy was it worth it. I got in some much needed rest (you won’t believe how draining this macoing thing is!) and to be honest I was able to do some even on holiday there was still loads for me to maco. SO your girl have loads to talk about.
The make up fiasco – somebody say sue!
Of course there was the royal wedding, and believe me there was more off on that day than the brides make up. I heard that the person who made her up is one of the best in the top local company that she represents. I mean her makeup was terrible (somebody say fired!); my cross eyed great grand mother could have done better – with her eyes close.
But anyhow that is old news on to some of the fresh juicy stuff cause like these entertainers like to give Laura things to talk about then get vex when I talk they business.
Traffik stop for Ola
Then there was Andy Joseph, the manager and owner of Traffik, who fired its youngest, newest and brightest star - Olatunji Yearwood.
I don’t know about any of you guys but if you have been to any of the top fetes recently you would have gotten to see this youngster perform. He can only be described as a cross between SuperBlue and James Brown.
So how is it that this young man who has been stealing a lot of double Soca Monarch Shurwayne Winchester’s thunder can be fired ( sorry according to the newspapers he is being asked to work on building his stamina etc – where is he supposed to do this, at home – in front the mirror?
And to top it all off they bring back Sean Caruth, don’t get me wrong cause Sean is meh boy but if you see Sean and you see Ola you will understand where I am coming from.
The funny thing is that Ola was told that the band didn’t need another front line singer but a good backing vocalist, hence the reason to bring back Sean. You think they tell Sean this?
…….Of course that is not all as Miss Laura has it on really good authority that Ola has in fact left double Soca Monarch winner Shurwayne Winchester worried about his future as the talented young man has been stealing his thunder.
Miss Laura has even heard that Ola’s thrilling performance of Peter Ram’s 'Woman by My Side' caused Shurwayne to do a remix of the popular tune so that he could recapture some of his lost thunder during the performance of the song.
I knew this firing was going to be inevitable.
Of course Ola is not the kind to little a little setback hold him down and has since joined Roy Calpe and the Kaiso All Stars frontline, shared with Blaxx and Trini Jacobs.
Destra Booed
Self-proclaimed Queen of Soca Destra has certainly been getting a raw deal recently, or is it that she is actually getting what she deserves.
The popular artist was booed at an all inclusive fete that she and her band Atlantik performed in recently. Destra performed Bunji and Sharika (of JMC 3Veni), popular 2006 hit 'Sadiki,' which led to the crowd chanting "Bunji Bunji Bunji," probably thinking that she was introducing him.
Of course being the regular Diva that she is, the displeased artist told the crowd that if they wanted Bunji they should have paid for him, before going on to tell the audience that she is getting ‘fight down in the industry.’
Destra’s performance, which received harsh but understandable reviews by the audience, was described by some as causing the latest murder for the year, that being the murder of the fete.
Destra certainly seems off to a bad start for 2007 as her performance on Old Year’s Night was described as boring.
Of course my girl trying real hard and has changed a number of her band members to see if this would help including the use of Shelshock on samples, who recently left Xtatik.
Destra girl like you need to consider the use of another frontline vocalist to help even out the sound, even the mighty Machel, Bunji and Shurwayne share ‘their’ stage, although I hear that is something you certainly don’t like to do.
Ok so your girl gone again until next week. Try not to miss me too much but believe me I will be back with all the latest gossip. Until then keep your ears to the ground cause you never know what you will hear.
