Last in the class category
I’m back. And no! I did not travel back to the UK with my guests! I was right here having a Carnival cool down. And it is in my reverie that my friends from foreign, who came to Carnival for the first time, keep sending me e-mails telling me to publish their sentiments.
It is the best festival in the world! (I told you!) But having soon become adoring fans of a very select number of artistes, they also became excited about the amount of competition we still have in the Carnival (recognizing, of course, it is a relic of slaves) and soon began to join camps, betting on their choices for winners.
Well I am still getting e-mails because they say that I need to say that we need to watch more television – you know like their Brit Awards, the Academy Awards, the American Music Awards, and so on.
They say we must pay attention to the graciousness of the winners: “First I’d like to thank the creator for his gift, my mother who sacrifices so much to support me, my beautiful wife Sandra who takes care of our sons while I am on the road, my producer Elihu Smitz, my record label, my manager…” But they say: “Cut arse!” as a winner’s response to an overwhelming victory was definitely a classless first for them!
A cut arse of High Drama (HD) dimension
This is something that one of them experienced up close and too personal for them.
While playing mas in Island People they rubbed shoulders with the likes of Brian Lara, the bubbly Jeanille from Tempo and some of their preferred, new-found stars.
They say, Carnival Tuesday, around lunch time close to Holy Name Convent School on Charlotte Street, while the band was waiting to cross the Savannah judging point in a section called Sahara Jumbie which was directly after their section called Cacti, one exuberant lady fan from Cacti saw a bright star in the band and immediately ran up to him and started wining. She had a drink in her hand and the drink spilled on the star’s back.
To their horror and dismay Mr. Man, looking like the jumbies in him jump out, pushed the lady so hard that she almost fell, and then slapped her. There were some men in the band (supposedly bodyguards) and they held him back, they say, but he was cussing and pushing, looking around to find the girl to fight her. He wanted to beat up on a woman!
Now I know this boy real close to his Ma who shadows him like a wanna-be star and our youths real look up to him and the women adore him – in every age group! But nothing surprises me anymore. (Ah shame like hell doh!) But my friends upset because they say when Jay-Z did it, it was all over the internet, but we real quiet about our son and he may be the Bigger Pimpin’.
A Sunday morning morass
This Sunday paper morass continues as the lady (oh gosh, we could call her that!) threatened to extend a journalist’s probation to six months and he promptly resigned having resigned only three months before from the other iron lady’s grip.
The editor already stated “who doh like her attitude could leave” and that is what all reporters and journalists have been doing ever since that declaration, years ago. Everybody resigned or transferred out from that paper one time because they wrote her a letter attempting to bring her conduct to the fore and she all but cuss them and their parents.
Everybody knows too, that she has forged an alliance with the GM and is Salt! for whoever wants to interfere with her, because that relationship guarantees that she could fight in the yard or cuss in the office and she would never be fired.
