COTT Sues Popular Website
A popular soca website based in North America is currently being sued by COTT for none payment of a music license for the use of the music on its site.
The site which is known for having the latest soca from the various countries has refused to pay.
The recent legal action has caused many websites to start sorting out their paperwork so that they are left in the same predicament as the well-known website.
(Sue them cause they taking this piracy thing too far. Time we start to give back to the artistes and producers that give us hours of musical pleasure.)
Chutney Monarch Fiasco
When popular crossover Chutney Soca artiste Hitman (aka Mr Shankar) captured the second prize in the recently held Chutney Monarch competition, he was quite pleased that he would be receiving prize money of TT$50,000 cash.
This was short lived as he soon found out that a decision was made for the prize to consist of $20,000 cash and the $30,000 as an all expense trip to Germany, for one.
Lack of communication on the part of the promoters and the ministry that sponsored the prize meant that Hitman who is currently in the US touring, was unable to go Germany. The organizers contacted Hitman’s manger with the flight information came two days before departure, when he was already in the US.
Would it have been so hard for the promoters and the ministry to ensure that Hitman his prize a week or even two, after the competition that was held on May 6th for him to prepare for the trip.
(I wonder if the cash prize of $30 000 would be reinstated since he wasn't aware that he was going in the first place)
Trini leaves Invazion
Soca artiste Trini (Caryl) Jacobs has parted ways with Point Fortin band Invazion.
The talented entertainer, who collaborated with Vincentian soca star Kevin Lyttle on Sexy Ways, replaced sexy soca artiste Fay Ann Lyons who abruptly left the band at the height of the 2005 Carnival season.
The daughter of veteran entertainers Carl and Carol Jacobs, Trini has decided to pursue a solo career.
Currently hard at work in the studio with her family, Trini recently completed Make a Difference with her dad, which is set to be released on her birthday in July.
(Whey, like that band can’t keep woman happy yes! First Fay Ann now Trini! I even understand that they already have a female replacement. Hmmmm, I wonder how long she will last.)
