Batson burning hot in 2006
Award winning soca composer Nadia Batson is sitting pretty this week after a recent composition of hers, Flames, captured both the Barbados Party Monarch and Road March titles.

Sung by Barry Chandler of the Bajan band Jabae, the hit was produced by ace Trini producer Neil Bernard.

The young lady will certainly 'eat ah food and drink ah juice' from the earnings of this song but of course that is not all as she is also the talent behind hits like Carnival Feeling (Rita Jones); Sleeping In Your Bed, Go Ahead (Michelle Sylvester) and her 2006 hit One Island.

Just in …..another Nadia Batson composition Expose sung by soca artist Tizzy placed 2nd in Antigua's Party Monarch and 3rd in the Road March race.

(Dat girl have talent eh? Eat yuh food Nadie!)

Trivia!
What do you call an artist that uses someone's musical composition without permission, records a song or advert and then does not share any of the proceeds with the creator ............. A THIEF!

Well this seems to be the trend with some of the big names in the soca industry causing producers to shake their collective heads and sigh. A new body representing producers are currently in the process of making it mandatory for artists to share earnings with the producers and writers.

So when an artist decided to be himself and 'tief' by registering the entire song with COTT giving 90% to himself and 10% to a close relative, despite not owning the melody then is it any surprise that he wins titles for work that aren't really his?

(Dem people too bad them like to tief, lie and still feel them is King!)

War Amongst The Stars
When veteran calypsonian /soca artist Leon Coldero was called upon by Promoter Noel La Bennett in New Jersey to do a show scheduled for September 2nd 2006, with his long time band mate Byron Lee, he was happy and quick to accept the gig, canceling any other tentative bookings.

Well it seems that Byron Lee, apparently sour over a fee Coldero charged him in Jamaica in April this year of $2000 US (which he paid by the way) decided to play hard ball with the promoter.
