FOUR more witnesses are expected to give evidence against soca star Machel
Montano and three other stars next year before the State closes its case against
them.
Yesterday, Janelle Lee Chee, the first witness who claimed to have been assaulted by Montano, was recalled for a second time this week to be cross-examined.
Lee Chee, who is currently studying Agricultural and Biological Engineering in Austria, first gave her evidence on May 29.
Yesterday defence attorney Keith Scotland cross-examined Lee Chee, who said that based on the advice from her attorney she attended a press conference because she believed that was one sure way of getting a fair trial.
After further questioning by Scotland, Lee Chee admitted she was annoyed at Montano on the day the offence allegedly took place.
Montano, Kernel Roberts, Fezeck and Rodney Le Blanc are accused of assaulting Lee Chee's friends, Russell Pollonais and Brandis Browne on April 26, 2007, outside the Zen Nightclub at Keate Street, Port of Spain. Montano faces an additional charge of using obscene language.
When asked if she was so annoyed at Montano that she concocted the entire incident, Lee Chee responded by asking Scotland "You serious, that's your question?"
Her sarcasm did not sit well with Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor, who warned her to just answer the question.
She then asked for Scotland to repeat himself and answered that she did not concoct the event.
Lee Chee added that she was peeved because she could not believe Montano was the same person who held her hand and shook her on the night of the incident since he sang songs about an amnesty, putting down the gun and non-violence. The matter was then adjourned to January 8, 2009.
