From Islandevents.com PRINT Soca Buzz When upcoming soca artiste Benjai left top Soca band Asylum, people wondered whether he would be able to survive. However, they had little time to wonder as he quickly aligned himself for Machel and Xtatik, while as a solo artiste he quickly released a number of hits including Amnesty featuring Machel. Despite Benjai’s indication in the local press that there were no hard feelings when he left the band, Bunji soon released Best Friend, which many believe was about Benjai. This weekend the lyrical battle took another turn. While on stage performing at the Base Nightclub in New York over the weekend, Benjai added ‘his two cents’. Benjai sang about Bunji always singing about being in the ghetto but he is never seen there. He also went on to sing Bunji’s song on the Immediate riddim - Right Now, saying that even though they warring he would still sing Bunji’s song. This received a very favourable response from the small crowd in attendance. (Somebody say FIGHT!!! Now promoters this is a great opportunity to organize a clash so we can get the full story and also to see once and for all who the better lyricist is….lol) Kevin Lyttle doing his thing Currently at home in St Vincent, Lyttle has dropped a number of new songs and has two more to drop, one of which is expected to be a Road March contender. The artiste, who is known for hits like Turn Me On and Home for Carnival, intends to touch down in Jamaica to record with top producer Don Corleone. Atlantic Records’ press department has come out and denied the rumour but don’t be surprised if a different official word comes out soon. (But way what is this? I guess the grass not always greener on the other side! Cause artistes fighting to get an international contract and is all this stress involved. Forget that yes) Mista Vybe for OECS Soca Monarch The ‘Ting Man’ Mista Vybe has been invited to participate in the 2006 OECS Soca Monarch in St Lucia in July. Vybe will become the first local artiste to ever compete, resulting in a change of rules for the competition, which is usually held among members of the Eastern Caribbean States. (Good luck Mista Vybe go out there and make us proud….Somebody say Ting 4 De Road!) © Copyright 2003 by Islandevents.com PRINT |
