Despite speculations about his future as a member of the Sunderland team, Trinidadian veteran Dwight Yorke is still uncertain about his future at the club, claiming that playing for the promoted side that survived relegation this season, has been one of his happiest in football.
"It's been fantastic, getting promoted and winning the championship," Yorke was quoted as saying on BBC Radio Newcastle.
"And no doubt to get in the Premier League. Who would have said at 36 I'd be playing in the Premier League?"
The former Manchester United striker played a big role in Sunderland’s title winning feat in the Coca-Cola Championships a year ago and though many believe the Trinidad and Tobago international will leave this summer, he is still prolonging his final decision.
He is scheduled to have a meeting with manager Roy Keane some time this week, before actually making a decision on his future.
"The gaffer and I have spoken a couple of times and there will be more talk in the week ahead, it's got to be a situation that suits both parties," Yorke said on Monday.
"I feel like I'm in good nick. I've been lucky over the years with the injuries and I do want to keep playing. I don't know where it will be," he added
Meanwhile, manager Keane, who played with Yorke at Manchester United during their glory days -- both in England and in the European Championships League -- believes the Trinidadian has done exactly what he signed him to do.
"He has done just what we hoped, on and off the field," said the manager, adding that the player was "one of my best signings."
Staring for the first time since January, Yorke played the entire 90-minutes in Sunderland’s last game of the season, which they lost 1-0 to Arsenal in front of a sell-out crowd of 47,802 at the Stadium of Light on Sunday. But, despite the defeat Keane said the former Trinidad skipper had an impressive outing.
"Yorkie played well [Sunday] and if it was his last game for Sunderland, I'm sure he enjoyed it," he said.
"If he is to move on we would wish him the best luck in the world, he has been a fantastic player and person for this club."
Keane said he and chairman Niall Quinn will meet to discuss the transfer budget, before offering Yorke a new deal.
"We have got to look at the package in terms of Dwight's age," Keane revealed.
"I know he has got one or two other offers on the table and in a way, it is up to him to decide what he wants to do."
Earlier this week Keane decided not offer Andy Cole, Ian Harte, Stephen Wright and Stanislav Varga new contracts at the club, as they were told they do not figure in manager's long-term plans and they are free to find new clubs.
