Trinidad and Tobago under-17 women footballers were ousted from the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championships when they were hammered 9-1 by the United States at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, last night.

Costa Rica drubbed El Salvador 8-1 to clinch the final place into the semi-final round which will kick off tomorrow at the same venue.

United States winners of Group "A," Canada who topped Group "B", Mexico and Costa Rica will slug it out for the three places at the inaugural FIFA Women Under-17 World Cup in New Zealand later this year.

Needing just one point from last night's game, the Trinidadians soon found themselves outclassed by the powerful American girls.

The Trinidad girls made a grand start to the tournament when they clobbered El Salvador 5-1 but in what turned out to be the most crucial game for them against Costa Rica, they could not break down their opponents defence and the game ended scoreless forcing them into last night’s situation.

Costa Rica on the other hand needed to win handsomely to snatch the final place away from Trinidad and Tobago, and this they did. With their 8-1 victory, Costa Rica boosted their goal-difference to eight goals for and seven against -plus one.

But with their heavy defeat in last night’s game, Trinidad and Tobago ended up on six goals for with 10 against for a minus of four goals.
